Weights Before Dates: Valentine’s Day on the Platform
Love was certainly in the air last Saturday on Valentine’s Day, but the love we saw was for the sport of weightlifting.
Our “Weights Before Dates” event brought together athletes, supporters, and clubs for a day celebrating strength, community, and a shared passion for the barbell. The day kicked off with our Intro Clean & Jerk competition, giving newer lifters the opportunity to step onto the platform and experience the thrill of competition for the first time.
From there the energy only built as we moved into the main event, the Qld Weightlifting sanctioned competition. Lifters truly snatched our hearts and cleaned us off our feet, delivering impressive performances and huge efforts throughout the day.
This year we also set ourselves a goal: to take the competition off-site. We were excited to bring the event to our sister gym Rebuild Wynnum, giving them a taste of what Rebels Weightlifting has been hosting over the past two years. Judging by the atmosphere, the lifting, and the support from the crowd, we can safely say it was a huge success.
A massive thank you goes out to all our visiting athletes and supporters, and especially to our Stronger Futures Cup clubs, Southside Weightlifting and Body Express Barbell Club for lighting up both the platform and the crowd with their energy and performances.
Events like this remind us that weightlifting is about more than just numbers on a bar, it’s about community, camaraderie, and sharing the platform together.
We’re already looking forward to the next one.
